A Day in the Snow

With Emily gone for quick birthday weekend getaway, the Pi man and I (Jeff) had a fun time playing in the snow.

Usually, I barely bat my eye at the threat of 0-2" of snow (we maybe got half an inch). But here in Seattle, people get really weird if ANY snow accumulates, so we made our afternoon errands early and quickly got home to enjoy the white.

When we got back there was enough snow to make a snowman, which Atticus thoroughly enjoyed. After I constructed a somewhat rudimentary body and head (not sure what I mean by that exactly, how pristine can an ordinary snowman be?), Atticus took it upon himself to find the parts to make the snowman's face. After we fumbled around the yard looking for rocks and rummaged through the fridge for a carrot nose, Atticus thought it prudent to retrieve his Mr. Potato Head accessories from his room and distribute them accordingly.

(Atticus decorating the snowman. Notice the little blue feet at the bottom. Very cute.)

We busied ourselves until well after dark redistributing the various eyes, noses, arms, ears and hats.

(Atticus really got into the decorating.)

When it was time to come in, Atticus was really good about taking all of the paraphernalia off of the snowman. Too good, actually. He took everything off, including the carrots and rocks and left the snowman completely bare. I was a little perplexed until he made it clear that he wanted me to put the snowman INSIDE the kitchen ("snowman inside, snowman inside...")

After throwing a little bit of a fit with loud screeches followed by tears (it breaks my heart) he eventually relented. Once inside, with some hot cocoa and crackers, I explained how it was too hot inside for the snowman.

After my explanation of heat and snow, which was entirely too long and verbose for a toddler, Atticus followed up with a request to watch Alice in Wonderland. Well, so much for that...

Loved it! You're lucky to have gotten your 2 inches. We have a couple feet here in Montana. You're little guy has quite the imagination. Reminds of when his father dragged the garden hose into the house VERY determined to make himself a waterbed!
