Jumping on the bandwagon- Staycation ideas

Is anyone else REALLY tired of people blabbing about "staycations?" What a dumb word! Anyway, there are some really cool things to do around here in the summer here are some gems I've got tucked in my back pocket for sometime soon:

Instead of Hawaii: Jetty Island in Everett. A free ferry and lots of fun activities to a man made island with nice, sandy beaches

Instead of Pirates of the Caribbean: The landing of the Seafair pirates on Alki beach (July 5).

Instead of Hollywood: Lots of free outdoor movies. I'm most tempted by this one, but it's tomorrow night and I'm not sure we can swing it!

Instead of an expensive concert at the Gorge: These freebies downtown, or at U Village. Dudley is 8/4 downtown, might have to take a long lunch that day!

There's some free summer fun for you! If you want to join us, just drop a note!

Funny you should write this. the governor of CT was on the radio lately talking about "Staycations" Sort of a catchy little name. I haven't decided if I am amused or annoyed by it.

However in the spirit of not wasting money and gas, there is a lot to do and see in New England. I live 2 hours away from Boston and New York and all sorts of cool towns in between, plus Vermont and Maine with all those beautiful mountains and rugged coastline.
But that's not NEWS to you. (smile)

I guess these things wouldn't count as a staycation though.

In my own backyard in Bristol there is the Carousel museum, the Clock museum and Lake Compounce (an amusement park). In Hartford (which incidentally got a really bad rap in the news recently--it's not all bad here!) There is Mark Twain, Harriet Beecher Stowe and Noah Webster's original homes. Lots of Victorian architecture and lost of patriotic history.

The building I work in was built in 1931 and has a lot of Art Deco features. It's pretty cool.

Happy 4th dear Emily! I agree with you, this is the best country to live in in the world!

Enjoy. I'll be back.
